The D.I.Y. Makeover: Telling Your Story

If you’ve frequented the blog in the last couple weeks, you’ve probably noticed us harping on the importance of telling your business’s story through social media.

If you didn’t catch it, here’s a synopsis: Telling a compelling origin story or branding story helps you…

  • Ground your business
  • Personify your business
  • Engage with customers

As part of Quincy Lampshades’ Total Page Makeover we made sure we gave Ruth and her business the perfect platform to tell her story. She executed brilliantly (read/watch her story here).

If you want to continue your D.I.Y. Total Page Makeover, then the next step is using a Tab to tell your story…

Which Tab is best for story-telling?

Ruth choose to use a video as part of her Facebook story-telling efforts, so her logical choice was a Video Tab. But you can really use any Tab that combines, you guessed it, text and image.

But let’s keep it simple: use an Image Tab (image) combined with an About Us Hylet (text).

The image: signifies and embodies your business and your brand.

The text: tells your Fans who you are and how you came to be, tells your story.

How to tell your “Branding Story” …

We can’t tell you specifically how to craft your branding story. Your story doesn’t have to fit any narrative norms (you want it to be unique, not cliche). But however it’s told, your story should be genuine, engaging, and creative.

Ruth combined video with a series of Q&A … clever and effective.

How you package your branding story is truly up to you. But whatever you decide, make sure your story does the following:

  • Communicates your origin: shares how you and your business came to be.
  • Reveals your inspiration: explain the principles that continue to guide your business (what drives you?).
  • Offers a vision of the future: give your readers an idea of your goals, and how you see your business evolving.
